Located on the narrows between North and South Wabasca Lakes, Wabasca-Desmarais serves as the headquarters for the Municipal District of Opportunity and Bigstone Cree Nation, as well as for some provincial government area-offices. As the largest hamlet in the District of Opportunity, Wabasca is sheltered by the majestic North and South Wabasca Lakes. With a population of 3,300 split between MD residents and Bigstone Cree Nation members, the area is rich with culture mixed with small-town leisurely charm.
